Located on NY431 White Face Mountain turned out to be a cool little trip. According to Wikipedia, it is the 5th highest mountain in the state of New York and one of the highest peaks in the Adirondack mountains.
There Is An Admission Fee
After stopping at the booth and pay an admission fee, it is a nice winding uphill drive to the top with scenic lookout points to pull over and check out the views. I believe there is a way to hike up and I know that hiking is very big there, but we rode up on the motorcycle. Once you near the top you will be greeted by workers who will instruct you where to park.
At this point, you are not quite at the top so you are given a choice. You could either walk through a tunnel and take an elevator up the rest of the way or you can hike. Due to time constraints, we choose the elevator.
The Views From The Top Are Awesome
The views from the top were awesome. On a clear day, you can see for miles in every direction. After we completed our viewing, we decided to hike down to a building that housed the restrooms and a cafe. There were no “steps” per say but you could with holding on to the railings you could follow the rocks down.
All in all, it turned out to be an awesome little day trip for us. You couldn’t beat the scenery. One word of advice, make sure before you go up it is a clear day otherwise you will see nothing. The people at the booth will let you know the visibility for the time you are there.
