First, let me say that I usually do not put any food places on day trip pages. But hey, this is RT 66!!! After driving west from Amarillo towards New Mexico on the historical RT 66 for about an hour or so, we came upon this little cafe on the side of the road.
Our original intention was to grab some pictures and get a quick bite to eat and move on. That almost worked. Once inside the staff went out of their way to accommodate and make your visit a pleasant one.
It’s set up almost like a 1950’s style diner. The menu is basic but the food is very good. After having a couple of sandwiches, we decided to try some pie. I originally wanted the Banana cream but they were out so I tried the coconut custard pie. We ordered one and figured we would share. After about 2 bites we quickly realized that we were going to need another piece. It was one of the best-tasting pies I have ever had.
We told the waitress how good it was and next thing you know we were talking to the owner. A really nice guy who bought the cafe about 5 years prior and has steadily made improvements. We talked about the history of the cafe and of course the pie…lol. We had an absolutely great time. Definitely, a recommended stop if you are traveling RT 66 and passing through the town of Adrien.
There is a gift shop attached to the cafe. Across the street is the sign that states you are exactly halfway.
