This is the second time we were looking for a campground in Vicksburg, Mississippi. Magnolia is conveniently located off I-20. The first time we stayed at River Town Campground which was right down the road. We decided we wanted to check out a different campground rather than stay at one we had been at already. It turned out to be the wrong decision.
We had called from the road to check for availability earlier in the day and spoke to the owner/manager whose name was Tony. He was nice enough on the phone and said he had availability but he was on the road himself and he would not be back at the campground for a little over an hour. That was no issue for us because we were further away than that.
Did You Call Earlier?
Upon arrival, Tony said he couldn’t find any notes that we called. We reminded him of our conversation and he seemed like he sort of remembered. The check-in process was easy and he was actually sort of funny. He gave us the sitemap and off we went.
The campground is laid out in a very typical fashion with 4 rows of campsites. Our site was located in the second row. All sites were pull-through full hook up sites. Once we pulled into our site it became apparent that these sites were very close together. So close that when we unhooked our truck and parked it next to our RV, we were just about in the next site.
Knock, Knock, Knock
It turned out that we were lucky and no one went into the site next to us. In the morning we got a knock on the door from someone two sites over asking us if we could move our truck. He was nervous he might clip the front end. Yes, I said two sites over!!!
When we pulled out later that morning, if any of our neighbors across from us or the guy on the backside of us were there and had vehicles, we would have been knocking on doors to get out also.
No Issues With Hook-Ups
We had no issues with any of the hook-ups. All worked fine and the electric was within specs. We had no issues with the cable TV either. There were some sites with picnic tables and we did not have one. Even if we did, we would have had to remove it due to lack of space.
The RV section of the park was generally neat and clean. There were a few garbage cans strategically placed on each row for you to get rid of your trash. They were neat and none of them were overflowing.
The very last row in the far end of the park was filled with some very old and broken down looking RV’s. Some of them had tarps over some areas of the rigs in an apparent attempt to stop leaks.
The front part of the park where the office was also housed in the laundry area and showers. The sitemap we were given lists a gym in front of the laundry mat but there was no gym. The bathrooms/showers and laundry room were clean.
Nice Dog Park
There was a nice fenced-in dog area behind the office building. Behind that was the propane fill area, dumpsters, and a basketball court. To the side of the office was a small pool and a bbq area with covered picnic tables.
Lastly on the other side of Miller Street (across from the campground) was a porta-potty company. Although a little unsightly there were no adverse odors coming from that company.
There are a lot of sites to see in Vicksburg and it is a nice area to spend a couple of days and explore. That being said, due to the very small sites we would not return to this campground.
Should we ever come back to this area, we would go down the road a little further and stay at River Town Campground.
