KOA Gulf Shores/Pensacola West
As we were making our way out of Florida and heading to the KOA in Amarillo Texas for our summer work camping gig, we found this cool little campground. We only stayed for the night but it seemed like a nice place to vacation for a while. Especially if you love water.
This was our first time hitting the road with no reservations anywhere. So while driving along Florida’s panhandle we started searching for a good place to stay for the night. There was a review that talked about seeing a beautiful sunrise over the bay. That was enough to pique our interest. We usually don’t arrive at campgrounds after hours but we spent a few extra hours on the road to get to check out this so-called amazing sunrise.
Needed A Place To Stay
When we called they were very friendly and asked if we just wanted to come in or make a reservation. We chose reservation because we were still a distance out and wanted to make sure after traveling this far we had a place to stay.
It was a good thing we did. We arrived after office hours. The staff had left us a map with our site number and directions to our site. After setting up on our site, we strolled around the campground. It was well kept, clean and the other campers were friendly.
There For The Sunrise
Of course, we were there for the sunrise. So we set our alarm for a half an hour before sunrise, made some coffee, and head down to the Bay. We were not disappointed. What a beautiful sunrise. Well worth driving the extra distance for us.
Before we left, we stopped in the office to just let them know we had been there. They were pleasant and the office looked well stocked. This park has cabins (some right on the water!!!), a pool, playground, laundromat, and a dog park.
