KOA Flatwoods

Welcome

Our next stop on the way to Arkansas was at Koa Flatwoods, West Virginia. We had no problem finding this one. The GPS took us right to it. Approaching this KOA you are actually going up a steep hill that winds you above a car dealership and you end up in a motel parking lot.

This was the strangest check-in for us so far in our travels. You can see the sign for the entrance into the Koa but you had to park and go inside the hotel and check-in at the front desk. The employee was friendly but more of a hotel check-in kind of friendly if that makes sense. Friendly but all business. Not the usual laughing and joking we’ve experienced at the Koa’s we’ve visited so far.

Hotel Check In

There is an indoor and outdoor pool, fitness room, gift shop, and restaurant inside the hotel that all Koa guests had use of. The only amenity inside the park was a playground for the kids. There was an amphitheater located inside the park which could be good or bad. We only stayed one night and there were no shows but we wondered what would have happened if there were a show. If there was, how late would it run? We figure it would be a late-night…lol. There were an ice machine and bathrooms in the amphitheater lobby which we were given the codes too.

Hang That Garbage High

The site we took was a pull-through full hook up site which was easy to get to, although up a windy road. Our hook up was uneventful. The grounds were neat and well maintained. There were poles which you hung your garbage on which we felt was a great idea. Too many times we see people leave a campground to move on and leave their garbage for pick up. By the time they come around to pick up the trash, the animals have already made a mess of it. This system eliminated that problem.

Bear Pole

There was no cable and we had good wifi. The campground was very “woodsy” and we enjoyed our walk through after we set up to stretch our legs. Overall, we feel this campground is good for an overnighter or if you had a lot of activities planned in the local area and were just going to use it to rest after a long day. Other than a playground near the amphitheater, there was nothing else for kids to do.

Final Thoughts

Bottom Line, if we were passing through W Virginia and needed a place to sleep for the night, we would stay here. We would just hope there were no shows going on at the amphitheater that night!!!… lol
