Continuing our trip down to Arkansas, we stopped at the Koa in Boone North Carolina. We stayed only 1 night and had a pull-through full hook up site. Note- there is no cable available at this park.

I must say, I should have done a little better research when I booked this campground. It is billed as the highest elevation of all Koa campgrounds east of the Mississippi at almost 4000 feet. I believe that!!! The trip to the campground was up some roads that would have been great on my motorcycle but my truck did not have as much fun…lol. Not only were they uphill but some were extremely curvy. probably not as much of a big deal if we were staying for more than a night, but too much for a one night stay.

Weird Tower

Upon arrival, the staff was very friendly and handed us our map which included nearby attractions, emergency numbers, and the rules. Our site was a little tight to get into and once unhooked, we did not have much room to put the truck. The fire area was near where the truck was, so I am not sure how we would have done a fire if we wanted. I am sure we would have figured something out. The wifi, as with most campgrounds was slow.

As for the park itself, it was very clean and well maintained featuring a pool. mini golf (I believe it costs extra), and a petting zoo. For those who geocache, there was one at the park. The restrooms and shower facilities were clean and everyone we spoke to there was friendly. The views from the campground were nice.

Bottom Line- We would go back only if we were going to stay for a couple of weeks minimum. The roads were just a bit too taxing on the truck for any kind of short stay.
