If you are driving in the area of Inverness Florida and would like a nice scenic place to stop and rest. Or if you would like to take your spouse, significant other, or family to a place you can relax a bit in a scenic environment, this is a must stop.
Cooter Pond Park is located within the historic downtown Inverness village which features the historic 1912 courthouse. Features of this park include fishing, picnicking, a canoe launch, wildlife, numerous photo-ops, and our favorite, Geocaching.
There are ample parking spaces and a porta-potty in the parking lot. On our visit, we were able to see turtles, cool birds, and of course alligators. According to their website, the alligators range from 4-7 feet which is definitely in the range of what we spotted.
The pond is home to several types of fish and birds. Some of the fish include small bass and bluegill. Some of the birds you might find hanging around would include storks, egrets, and herons.
There are numerous ways to pass the time away at this park. There are also hiking and bike trails located nearby on the Withlacoochee Trail. We were riding by on the motorcycle when we saw this park and had to stop. I would definitely recommend this park for a nice recharge with turtle and alligator sightings.
